Overview

The TR Swing is TR Equipment’s most specialized bathing system. Rather than requiring patients to sit or stand for tub entry, the Swing uses a mesh cradle that swings out horizontally, allowing patients to be transferred — typically by hoist — onto the cradle in a lying position. The cradle then swings back over the tub and lowers the patient into the water.

This approach enables full-immersion bathing for patients who cannot tolerate sitting upright, have severe contractures, spinal injuries, or extreme frailty. It is also appropriate for patients with high anxiety around bathing who benefit from a supported, controlled entry process.

Clinical Application

The TR Swing is typically specified for:

  • Spinal cord injury units
  • Acquired brain injury rehabilitation
  • Palliative care facilities
  • Complex care units with a high proportion of fully dependent patients

This is a specialized product — contact us to discuss whether the TR Swing is appropriate for your facility’s clinical profile, and to discuss installation and transfer hoist compatibility.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the TR Swing require a ceiling hoist to be used? The TR Swing is designed for use with a hoist system for patient transfer onto the swing cradle. In most installations, a ceiling hoist or mobile hoist positions the patient onto the swing-out cradle. The exact hoist compatibility depends on the installation — contact us for a full specification discussion including hoist interface requirements.

Is the TR Swing appropriate for patients with spasticity or contractures? Yes. The horizontal entry and mesh cradle that distributes patient weight along their full length makes the TR Swing one of the only bathing systems appropriate for patients with severe spasticity or contractures who cannot tolerate seated or semi-seated positioning during tub entry.

How does the TR Swing compare to using a shower trolley for fully dependent patients? A shower trolley provides non-immersion bathing — the patient is showered while lying on the trolley. The TR Swing provides full immersion bathing in a tub. Immersion bathing has distinct clinical and psychological value for some patient populations. The choice depends on the patient’s clinical needs, the facility’s care model, and available room configuration.
